Young researchers from Turkmenistan achieved outstanding success at the World Youth Science, Innovation and Invention Competition (WYSII 2026), held in Bangkok, Thailand, from January 29 to February 2. Two representatives of Turkmenistan — Patma Igdirova and Mekan Rozmyradov — were awarded top gold honors for their innovative scientific work.

Both winners represent the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan, according to reports by the publication Turkmenistan: Altyn Asyr.

Patma Igdirova received two high-level international awards for her research on methods of extracting biologically active compounds from mandragora. Her work earned the INTERACT 2026 INNOVATIVE EDUCATOR AWARD for innovation in education, as well as the prestigious GOLD AWARD for scientific excellence and originality, further highlighting Turkmenistan’s growing contribution to global science.

Mekan Rozmyradov, a third-year student at the Faculty of Chemistry and Nanotechnology, presented a project focused on developing environmentally friendly and highly durable keratin-based bioplastics. His research ranked among the top five projects in the “Ecology and Sustainable Development” category. The scientific supervisor of the project was Patma Igdirova. For this achievement, the young scientist from Turkmenistan was awarded a gold medal.

WYSII is one of the most respected international science competitions, bringing together young innovators and researchers from around the world each year. The success of Turkmenistan’s participants once again demonstrates the country’s strong scientific potential on the global stage.
