The Farap customs checkpoint has been recognized as one of the most efficient border crossings in Turkmenistan, distinguished by the shortest processing times for customs procedures. This conclusion is supported by studies conducted by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The research focused on analyzing time and cost expenditures related to export and transit of goods across Central Asian countries. As a result, the Farap customs checkpoint in Turkmenistan stood out as a corridor where customs clearance is carried out swiftly and effectively. This information was reported by Turkmenistan’s regional press.
According to the findings, during the period from August to October 2025, the average time required for customs procedures for export and transit cargo at the Farap, Garabogaz, and Dashoguz highway checkpoints in Turkmenistan was approximately 37 minutes.
This figure is the lowest among Central Asian countries. By comparison, similar procedures take about one and a half hours in Kazakhstan, one hour and forty minutes in Tajikistan, one hour and forty-four minutes in Kyrgyzstan, and around one hour and ten minutes in Uzbekistan. Queue analysis also showed that vehicle waiting times at the Farap checkpoint in Turkmenistan do not exceed 35 minutes, whereas in other countries delays can last for several hours.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
