Cultural Evening in Ashgabat Commemorates the 120th Anniversary of Classic Turkmen Writer Nurmyrat Saryhanow
22 May. 07:34The State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan held a solemn literary symposium titled "The Path of Life Begins with a Book" to honor the 120th anniversary of the birth of Nurmyrat Saryhanow, a founding figure of modern Turkmen prose. Organized with the comprehensive participation of the faculty and student body of the Yagshygeldi Kakaev International Oil and Gas University, the educational and cultural event was officially reported on the digital corporate portal of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.
The memorial assembly brought together prominent Turkmen writers, contemporary poets, academic literary critics, and university students based in the capital. Keynote speakers delivered detailed analytical presentations on Saryhanow’s life journey and his monumental impact on shaping 20th-century national literature. Academics highlighted that his narratives, characterized by profound psychological insight and realistic portrayals of traditional Turkmen life, continue to serve as structural cornerstones for the moral and intellectual cultivation of contemporary youth.
Nurmyrat Saryhanow is universally acknowledged as a pioneer who established refined structural frameworks for Turkmen short stories and novellas. His acclaimed literary catalog has achieved global reach, with numerous editions translated into multiple foreign languages over decades. The crown jewel of his artistic legacy remains the classic masterpiece "Shukur Bakhshi," a profound novella that highlights humanism, cultural diplomacy, and the peaceful philosophies of the Turkmen nation through the spiritual power of traditional music. The gathering highlighted the enduring value of his artistic contributions.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
