Guvanchmuhammet Ovekow, the President of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan (FFT), has been appointed as a member of FIFA’s Technical Development Committee — a body consisting of only 24 experts selected from 211 football associations worldwide.

This appointment highlights international recognition of Turkmenistan’s strategic progress in football and its growing influence in the global sporting community.

Under Ovekow’s leadership, the FFT has been actively implementing FIFA initiatives such as “Football for Schools” and “Talent Development,” while also investing in the professional growth of youth coaches. These steps aim to build a solid foundation for the country’s future national team players.

FIFA’s Technical Development Committee plays a central role in the promotion of grassroots, youth, and women’s football globally. It also supports coach education and helps emerging football nations launch long-term development strategies.

Since assuming leadership of the FFT in November 2024, Ovekow has brought both playing and coaching experience. As a former professional footballer, he played in Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Notably, he holds a national record — scoring four goals in a single international match against Afghanistan during the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup.
