A conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations has begun in Ashgabat. The forum is held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The participants were congratulated on the opening by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, according to TDH.
The head of state noted that Turkmenistan is actively strengthening its strategic cooperation with the UN, and the recognition of its permanent neutrality by three UN General Assembly resolutions has enhanced Turkmenistan’s international standing. The president emphasized that the neutrality policy fully aligns with national interests and the goals of the UN.
“In this regard, I am confident that, along with important issues of peace, security, and sustainable development, the conference agenda will also include matters related to Turkmenistan’s significant contribution to joint global efforts in implementing international initiatives,” the president said.
In his address, the president highlighted the importance of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, opened in Ashgabat, and the establishment of the Strategic Advisory Council “Turkmenistan – UN.” He also noted the outcomes of the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in Avaza, where the “Avaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034” was adopted.
