The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan has released a weather update indicating a period of atmospheric instability across the country. Residents should expect overcast skies and rainfall in most regions, accompanied by shifting winds. Despite the rainy conditions, a significant heatwave is expected to push temperatures as high as 32°C in the southern and eastern parts of the nation.
In Ashgabat and the Ahal region, the weather will be dominated by variable cloudiness and intermittent showers. Strong northwesterly winds are predicted to reach speeds of up to 19 meters per second, potentially causing localized dust storms. While nights in Ahal will remain relatively cool, ranging from +7°C to +18°C, daytime highs are projected to climb significantly, reaching up to +30°C in some areas.
The Mary and Lebap regions will experience the highest temperatures in the country. Daytime highs are forecast to fluctuate between +27°C and +32°C, bringing an early taste of summer heat despite the expected rainfall. The winds in these eastern provinces will shift from southeastern to northwestern, maintaining moderate to high speeds throughout the day, which may influence the perceived temperature.
The Balkan and Dashoguz regions will also see a mix of rain and variable sun. In the Balkan province, a stark contrast will exist between the coastal areas, where temperatures will hover around a mild +18°C, and inland districts reaching +26°C. Meanwhile, in Dashoguz, the northernmost region, daytime temperatures are expected to rise from a cool +13°C to a warm +30°C, reflecting the dynamic weather patterns currently affecting the entire territory of Turkmenistan.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
