A 110-Year Milestone Celebrated in Dashoguz Velayat of Turkmenistan Ahead of the New Year
03 Jan. 10:06On the eve of the New Year, a remarkable celebration took place in the Akdepe district of Dashoguz velayat, Turkmenistan. Local resident Novar Gylyjova marked her 110th birthday surrounded by family members, neighbors, and fellow villagers who gathered to honor her extraordinary life journey.
In Turkmenistan, Novar-ene is regarded as a symbol of family unity and moral strength. Over the decades, she raised five children and became the grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and the great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren, with the family continuing to grow.
Her family is especially respected in the village for its contribution to education in Turkmenistan. Many of her children and grandchildren chose teaching as their profession, earning the household a reputation as a “family of educators.” One of her sons has devoted more than half a century to working as a school teacher, helping shape future generations.
Throughout her life, Novar Gylyjova worked in agriculture, remaining closely connected to the land. She attributes her long life to honest labor, positive intentions, and unwavering care for her children. During holidays, the extended family traditionally comes together, maintaining close ties despite distances — a value deeply rooted in Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage.
Extending her New Year wishes to the people of Turkmenistan, the 110-year-old resident wished everyone good health, prosperity, and many peaceful years ahead.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
