Turkmenistan has issued the official timetable outlining daily fasting and breaking-fast times for the holy month of Ramadan in the year 1447 according to the Hijri calendar. The schedule has been compiled separately for the capital city of Ashgabat, the city of Arkadag, and the country’s five provinces — Ahal, Balkan, Mary, Lebap, and Dashoguz.
According to the published calendar, Ramadan in 2026 will begin on February 18 and conclude on March 19.
Each fasting day is structured around two key meals: suhoor, the pre-dawn meal eaten before the morning prayer time begins, and iftar, the evening meal taken after sunset when the time for the evening prayer enters.
Because Turkmenistan’s cities and regions are situated across different geographical zones, fasting and iftar times differ depending on location. The most noticeable time difference occurs between the western districts of Balkan Province and the eastern districts of Lebap Province.
Eid al-Fitr in 2026 will be celebrated on Friday, March 20.
Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
