On October 23, a conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event gathered representatives of Turkmen ministries and agencies, heads of UN missions and embassies, as well as faculty members and students.

Strategy of Neutrality and Trust

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, emphasized Turkmenistan’s consistent policy course focused on strengthening strategic partnership with the United Nations — the global guarantor of peace and security for eight decades.

It was noted that the initiatives put forward by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the UN General Assembly sessions reflect a deep understanding of global challenges and aim to enhance the Organization’s role in international affairs.

Particular attention was paid to advancing the concepts of peace and trust, reinforcing international law, and supporting landlocked developing countries. In this regard, the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the “Avaza Political Declaration” was recognized as a significant achievement of multilateral diplomacy.

Turkmenistan is a party to 192 UN international conventions and, since 2005, has jointly implemented more than 566 national and regional projects with the UN system, amounting to over 545 million USD.

Economy and Sustainable Development Goals

Minister of Finance and Economy, Mammetguly Astanagulyyev, reported on two ongoing UNDP projects totaling over 399,000 USD, aimed at promoting sustainable economic diversification, digital technology adaptation for achieving the SDGs, and building national capacity for WTO accession.

Minister of Health, Myrat Mammedov, highlighted strategic cooperation with UNICEF and UNFPA, including the introduction of an updated national immunization calendar with the hexavalent vaccine and programs supporting reproductive health.

The important role of collaboration with the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in maintaining peace and trust in the region was also emphasized.

A New Strategic Cycle

Conference participants agreed that the UN’s 80th anniversary is not only a milestone but also an opportunity to reaffirm Turkmenistan’s commitment to the principles of peace, trust, and partnership.

The event concluded with the signing of the United Nations–Turkmenistan Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030. The document defines strategic priorities for the next five years, marking the transition to a new, proactive phase of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
