Marine experts in Turkey are advising caution following the discovery of large, venomous jellyfish near the popular resort of Antalya. According to Mehmet Gokoglu of Akdeniz University, specimens of the nomadic jellyfish (Rhopilema nomadica), weighing up to 10kg, have been spotted in the local bays. These creatures, originally from the Red Sea, are believed to have drifted into the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal due to recent heavy winds.

The tentacles of these large marine animals can extend up to 1.5 meters, carrying a painful sting. Authorities advise anyone who comes into contact with them to treat the affected area with hot water and ammonia. It is estimated that these jellyfish will remain in the coastal waters of Antalya until June, requiring extra vigilance from swimmers.
