The Central Referendum Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan has officially released the preliminary results of the national vote on the new Constitution. This pivotal event marks a significant shift in the country's political landscape. The high voter turnout demonstrates strong public engagement in the ongoing state reforms and a clear mandate for constitutional change.

According to data from March 16, 7,954,667 citizens voted in favor of the new legal document, representing 87.15% of all participants. Nurlan Abdirow, Chairman of the Central Referendum Commission, reported that 898,099 people voted against the amendments. With a total turnout of 73.12%, the referendum has legally met all requirements to be considered valid and representative.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the nation on the adoption of the new Constitution, emphasizing that the referendum was conducted with transparency and in full compliance with democratic standards. The reforms affect 77 articles, accounting for approximately 84% of the Constitution's total content, and represent a fundamental restructuring of the political system.

Key changes include the establishment of a Vice-Presidential role, the transition to a unicameral parliament (the Kurultai), and the creation of the People's Council of Kazakhstan (Halk Maslahaty) as an advisory body. Furthermore, eligibility requirements for presidential candidates have been tightened; candidates must now possess at least five years of experience in public service or elected office. The constitutional provision limiting the presidency to a single term is maintained, alongside enhanced protections for human rights, personal data privacy, and increased transparency regarding the foreign funding of organizations.
