Turkmenistan Delegation Explores Boston’s Best Practices in Intellectual Property and Innovation

19 Sep. 17:29

Continuing their productive visit to the United States under the auspices of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the official delegation from Turkmenistan arrived in Boston, the historic and scientific hub of New England.

Bringing together representatives from government agencies, ministries, and the private sector, the delegation engaged in a comprehensive professional and cultural itinerary organized with the support of the non-profit organization WorldBoston.

The visit focused on exploring advanced U.S. practices in patent law, industry-academia collaboration, and intellectual property protection in the digital era.

The introduction to Boston began with a deep immersion into the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.

In the opening days, the Turkmen experts toured historic landmarks, visited the iconic Faneuil Hall Marketplace, and enjoyed a maritime excursion in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary for whale watching.

A highlight of the cultural program was an evening of home hospitality, where delegates joined local American families for a traditional dinner, fostering meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and people-to-people diplomacy.

The professional agenda commenced at the Boston University School of Law.

During a meeting with Maureen Leo, Director of Graduate International Programs, and faculty member Nick Psychogeos, the delegates discussed contemporary legal challenges facing intellectual property systems, including the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and international legal enforcement.

Furthermore, insights into digital media, sports branding, and copyright application were explored during a session with Drew Rauzo of Playmaker HQ at the WorldBoston offices.

The delegation's professional engagements continued at prominent financial and legal institutions in Boston. Inside the historic Federal Reserve Bank building, the Turkmen representatives met with Jonathan Roses, a member of the Board of Governors of the Boston Intellectual Property Law Association (BIPLA), to discuss how professional communities unify legal standards and enhance public awareness.

Additionally, John Spangenberger, partner at the intellectual property law firm Lando & Anastasi LLC, shared practical expertise on managing international patent portfolios and transforming complex engineering developments into secure commercial assets.

A vital component of the visit involved exploring technology transfer mechanisms at leading American universities.

At Tufts University’s Medical Education Building, Martin Sohn, Senior Director of Technology Commercialization, and Chiara Vanucci, Technology Licensing and Commercialization Manager, presented the university's framework for translating academic innovations into public and commercial benefits while fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Both sides exchanged valuable perspectives on evaluating commercial potential and structuring university-industry partnerships.

Concluding their intensive Boston itinerary, the Turkmenistan delegation successfully departed for Denver on September 15, 2026, to continue their U.S. program. The visit to Boston served as a significant milestone in broadening the professional expertise of Turkmen specialists and strengthening bilateral cooperation in innovation and law.

New Digital Boundaries: Turkey Implements Strict Social Media Regulations for Minors

10 Oct. 10:05

Source

Starting November 1, 2026, Turkey will restrict access to social media platforms for children under the age of 15 following a new regulatory decree issued by the Presidential Cyber Security Directorate and published in the Resmi Gazete. Under the new framework, users aged 15 to 18 will undergo mandatory age verification through the "e-Devlet" portal. Accounts for this age group will feature default private settings, with explicit bans on live streaming, targeted behavioral ads, and profile recommendation algorithms.

Social media networks are also required to provide parents and legal guardians with control tools to monitor usage time, location tracking, and financial transactions. Existing active accounts must complete the age verification process by March 31, 2027.
