Show Your Language Mastery at the World Russian Language Championship 2026
27 Jul. 10:18Applications are now officially open for the World Russian Language Championship 2026 for Foreigners. Designed to foster international cultural exchange and promote Russian language studies across the globe, this initiative continues to expand rapidly. The tournament's global footprint grew significantly from over 2,000 participants representing 57 countries in 2024 to more than 4,000 competitors from 66 nations in 2025.
Participation is open to four-member teams consisting of one mentor and three foreign nationals or stateless individuals aged 16 to 35 with proficient Russian language skills. The qualifying stages will take place online from July through October 2026, featuring three separate divisions for non-CIS international countries, CIS member states, and foreign students currently enrolled in Russian universities. Interested teams can complete their registration on the official portal through October 1, 2026.
Following the online selection rounds, the top 30 teams will win an invitation to Moscow for the grand in-person final, which features intense competitive challenges paired with a rich cultural program. The overall champions will walk away with the official trophy, the prestigious title of "World Russian Language Champion," and full-tuition government scholarships to pursue higher education at top Russian universities.

The program target young specialists and researchers from Turkmenistan seeking to conduct post-graduate research or pursue doctoral studies at top Swiss universities and research institutes.
Key applicant requirements:
A Master’s degree or equivalent academic/professional credential;
Age limit: born after December 31, 1991;
A detailed research proposal including a timeline, core methodology, and planned objectives;
An official letter of academic sponsorship from a host professor in Switzerland;
For applicants currently residing in Switzerland, the entry date must not precede August 1, 2026.
The grant includes a monthly allowance, health insurance coverage, partial housing subsidies, and travel expenses. Research fellowships range from 6 to 12 months in duration. Electronic application submissions will remain open through November 27, 2026. Application procedures for Turkmen citizens are overseen by the Embassy of Switzerland in Baku.
