SpaceX founder Elon Musk stated that the company’s next-generation spacecraft, Starship, is on track to reach the Moon before China’s planned mission. Posting on X, Musk noted that SpaceX is progressing “at lightning speed” compared to the rest of the space industry.
He expects Starship to carry out a crewed lunar mission under NASA’s Artemis program by 2027, with certification for human flights anticipated as early as next year. The launch system, consisting of Starship and the massive Super Heavy booster, surpasses NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) in power and stands over 120 meters tall — making it the largest rocket ever developed.
While China targets a manned Moon landing by 2030, Musk believes SpaceX will beat them to it.
So far, Starship has completed 11 orbital launches, though nearly half ended in failure. Still, Musk remains confident that his spacecraft will mark the beginning of a new chapter in lunar exploration.
