WhatsApp is preparing to introduce special accounts designed for users under the age of 13. These profiles will be created and supervised by parents or guardians. The announcement was made by the company Meta.
According to the publication DW, the new feature was developed in cooperation with families and specialists in child safety and digital well-being.
Once a child’s account is set up, it will operate under parental supervision. Parents or guardians will be able to decide who is allowed to send messages to the child and which group chats the young user can join.
They will also have access to message requests from unknown contacts and will be able to control the privacy settings of the child’s profile.
Earlier, Australia introduced restrictions on the use of social media by children and teenagers due to concerns about their mental health. Similar regulatory discussions are currently taking place in several other countries.
