An official opening ceremony was held in the Gokdepe etrap of Ahal velayat to mark the commissioning of two major hydro-technical facilities, namely water pumping stations No. 21 and No. 22. According to a report by the "Watan" news program, large-scale celebrations featuring performances by leading cultural figures and musicians took place at the site of the 21st station. These new infrastructural complexes are designed to comprehensively upgrade the region's irrigation framework and optimize agricultural water distribution.
The construction of the hydro-engineering network, situated exactly at the 828-kilometer mark of the Garagum River, was executed entirely by Turkmen construction specialists. In the machinery division of the 21st station, engineers integrated 8 high-performance pumping units configured with variable output capacities. This technical hardware was manufactured and supplied by the specialized corporate group KSB, located in the Federal Republic of Germany.
According to the engineering blueprints, water from the Garagum River is channeled from the 21st station through high-pressure pipelines across a distance of approximately 7 kilometers in a southwestern direction to reach the intake canal of the 22nd station. This structural design enables the system to transport water without any operational runoff losses to arable lands situated 130 meters higher than the river’s natural bed. This unlocks stable water sourcing for elevated agricultural plots that were previously difficult to irrigate.
At the next stage of distribution within the 22nd station layout, a total of 10 pumping aggregates are installed, featuring 7 active operational units and 3 units assigned to emergency backup lines. The deployment of this modern irrigation network opens up automated, resource-efficient watering capabilities for agricultural lands covering a gross area of 6,198 hectares. Field watering processes will be managed utilizing digital frameworks designed to minimize water waste.
To conclude the inaugural event, outstanding construction workers, field engineers, and technical personnel who demonstrated exceptional performance during the execution of this state project were presented with valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan. These newly integrated pumping hubs will serve as a foundational asset for strengthening regional food security and accelerating crop production metrics within Ahal velayat.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
