In the Balkan region, comprehensive measures are being implemented to ensure a steady supply of clean drinking water, with the underground Yasga Lake playing a pivotal role. Located in the ancient Uzboy riverbed within the Central Karakum Desert, this extraordinary natural reservoir is a dual-layered source containing both fresh and saline water. Its strategic management is essential for the domestic and industrial growth of Turkmenistan's western territories.

The water supply department of the "Turkmennebit" State Concern utilizes a sophisticated "dual-well" extraction method at the Yasga settlement. This technique involves simultaneous pumping from twin wells to separate fresh water for public consumption and saline water for industrial and technical purposes. This innovative approach is crucial for maintaining the hydrostatic balance of the underground aquifers, preventing the mixing of water layers and ensuring the sustainability of the freshwater lens.

The freshwater is transported through the 120.6-kilometer Yasga–Balkanabat trunk pipeline, serving as a lifeline for the regional capital and surrounding areas. Before distribution, the water undergoes a rigorous two-stage purification process using advanced filtration systems. Laboratory specialists conduct constant monitoring at every phase to ensure the ecological purity and safety of the water, meeting the highest sanitary standards.

The infrastructure, supported by three massive reservoirs with a total capacity of 7,000 cubic meters, is managed by the water supply department of the "Nebitgazburawlaýyş" trust. As one of the oldest and most reliable utility enterprises in the country, it oversees the technical integrity of the wells and the pipeline. The expertise of its engineers and operators ensures that the unique resources of Yasga Lake continue to support the long-term environmental and economic stability of the western region.

















Turkmenistan Develops Bio-Agent to Neutralize Methane Emissions

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
