On the sidelines of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council sessions currently taking place in Brussels, a bilateral meeting was convened between the Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the WCO. The diplomatic dialogue was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Belgium. The official institutional report outlining the diplomatic proceedings was published by the national customs authority's media office.

The strategic focus of the high-level meeting centered primarily on introducing comprehensive professional educational structures and expanding the administrative capacity of the WCO Regional Training Center based in Turkmenistan. Both parties recognized the substantive progress achieved through recent joint educational initiatives. The leadership noted that adopting global best practices is essential for reinforcing regional border security and accelerating global trade supply lines.

Reviewing technical achievements, the delegates highlighted the successful participation of Turkmen customs officers in specialized training modules during the 2025–2026 term. These technical programs focused on critical aspects of modern border management, including risk mitigation management, time release studies for commercial freights, advanced data analytics, and the overarching digitalization of customs operations. The integration of these digital updates has greatly enhanced clearance speeds at national checkpoints.

Looking forward, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan reconfirmed its commitment to institutional growth by planning further involvement in international capacity-building programs. Agreements were finalized to facilitate the deployment of Turkmen customs specialists into the WCO Career Development Program for the upcoming 2026–2027 academic year. This educational framework will include short-term practical fellowships abroad, designed to optimize the technical skill sets of the domestic customs workforce.
