Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Set to Broaden Trade and Economic Cooperation

In Tashkent, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks, during which they agreed to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation and deepen multifaceted partnership. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, according to the newspaper “Turkmenistan.”

The meeting took place at the “Kuksaroy” Palace as part of the Turkmen President’s state visit to Uzbekistan.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and reviewing regional matters, including cooperation within the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, regional security challenges, and efforts to support Afghanistan’s recovery.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed holding the next session of the Turkmen-Uzbek Business Council and the third interregional forum in 2026, as well as opening trade houses of both countries in Ashgabat and Tashkent. He emphasized that the two nations possess all the necessary conditions to unlock their full trade and economic potential.

A new Turkmen-Uzbek border trade center is being inaugurated today, an initiative expected to boost mutual trade flows. The Turkmen President also outlined opportunities for cooperation in transport, energy, agriculture, the chemical industry, as well as culture, education, science, sports, and healthcare.

Turkmenistan and Spain share experience in combating desertification

A Spanish delegation led by Ambassador to Moscow Ricardo Martinez held talks with the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental matters.

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated the Turkmen side on the International Day of Neutrality and thanked them for the warm welcome. The discussions were later reported on the official website of Turkmenistan’s environmental authority.

The agenda included cooperation in environmental protection, joint efforts to combat desertification, and measures to address plastic waste pollution. Special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s presidential initiative announced at the UN General Assembly, proposing the establishment of a regional desertification prevention center for Central Asian countries, along with potential areas of collaboration.
