President of Turkmenistan Pays Working Visit to Mary Region

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made a working trip to the Mary Region today, where he reviewed the progress of seasonal agricultural activities and large-scale projects carried out under the National Rural Development Program. During the visit, the Head of State chaired a working meeting with leaders of the agricultural sector, according to the “Watan” news program.

The meeting focused on the development of the agricultural industry and the current state of scientific research within the field. Deputy Prime Minister T. Atakhallyyev delivered a report on the activities of Turkmenistan’s research institutions — including grain, crop and cotton research centers — highlighting ongoing efforts to advance farming and seed production through scientific approaches.

After listening to the report, the President stressed the significant role of scientific research in diversifying and strengthening the agricultural sector. He issued several instructions aimed at enhancing the efficiency of these activities.

The governor of the Mary Region, D. Annaberdiyev, along with other regional officials, reported on comprehensive research aimed at improving soil productivity and testing new varieties of crops.

The Head of State emphasized that the quality of scientific work in crop selection and seed development must remain a priority. He underlined the importance of studying advanced global experience and adopting modern agro-technological methods. The President also noted that the professional development of scientists and specialists must be consistently supported. After giving relevant instructions, he concluded the meeting.

Turkmenistan and Spain share experience in combating desertification

A Spanish delegation led by Ambassador to Moscow Ricardo Martinez held talks with the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental matters.

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated the Turkmen side on the International Day of Neutrality and thanked them for the warm welcome. The discussions were later reported on the official website of Turkmenistan’s environmental authority.

The agenda included cooperation in environmental protection, joint efforts to combat desertification, and measures to address plastic waste pollution. Special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s presidential initiative announced at the UN General Assembly, proposing the establishment of a regional desertification prevention center for Central Asian countries, along with potential areas of collaboration.
