In Isa Town, Bahrain, the international “A” category tennis tournament for girls under 14 showcased strong performances from Turkmen athletes. The event, organized by the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), brought together competitors from 17 countries.
In doubles, 12-year-old Sülgün Ishangulyyeva partnered with Jordan’s A. Gokashau to secure second place. They triumphed over opponents from Russia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and defeated an Indian pair in the semifinals to reach the final. In the final match, they faced the Russian-Iranian duo S. Himmelreich / Aylin Mohammadian and earned silver medals.
In singles, the best Turkmen result came from 7th-grade student Názli Hudaygulyyeva from Ashgabat’s 87th school. She won three matches to reach the semifinals, lost to a Chinese opponent, and then defeated a Japanese player in the third-place match, finishing 4th.
The “ATF Bahrain 14 & Under Category A” tournament awards ranking points. Following the event, Názli Hudaygulyyeva ranked 19th and Sülgün Ishangulyyeva 52nd in Asia’s junior girls’ ranking. Both athletes train under the guidance of Yuri Rogusskiy, head coach of the Turkmen women’s national team.
