15 Oct. 08:23The Turkmenistan national football team defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the fourth round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying tournament. The Group D match took place in the city of Arkadag.
Goals for Turkmenistan were scored by Elman Tagayev (52nd minute) and Mekan Saparov (58th). The ball found its way into Turkmenistan's net after an own goal by defender Guychmyrat Annagulyev in the 67th minute.
After four rounds, Turkmenistan has nine points and is tied for first place in its group with Thailand. Sri Lanka is third, three points behind the leaders. Chinese Taipei is at the bottom of the standings, having not earned a single point. The team that finishes first in its group will qualify for the Asian Cup.
The 2027 AFC Asian Cup final tournament will take place from January 7 to February 5 in Saudi Arabia. It will feature 24 of the continent's strongest teams.
