The National Carpet Museum Announced Winners of the Annual Weaving Competition
31 May. 06:25The National Museum of Turkmen Carpet hosted the closing ceremony of the prestigious textile and craftsmanship competition titled "Arşyň nepisligi — türkmen halysy." Organized by the "Turkmenhaly" State Association, this institutional event was dedicated to the National Turkmen Carpet Day. The expert jury evaluated the competitive entries based on rigorous technical standards, including knot density, mathematical symmetry of geometric motifs, and authenticity of traditional organic dyes.
The Grand Prix of the competition was awarded to the Ashgabat Art Carpet Enterprise for their landscape carpet masterpiece named "Bagtyyar," woven under the guidance of chief artisan Annagozel Melayeva. This complex artwork features a surface area of 6.06 square meters, measuring 2.02 by 3 meters. In the specific category of decorative carpet panels and landscapes, the top position was secured by the National Museum's internal team with their "Ayna gochak" model, followed by the "At" and "Alabay" designs.
Within the large-scale flooring category (measuring 4 square meters and above), the Halach Art Carpet Enterprise claimed first place for their red-background "Owgan goli" carpet, supervised by Maya Achilova. In the medium-format category (ranging from 2.5 to 3.90 square meters), the Baharden branch won the top prize for their classic red "Ensi" design, outperforming competitive submissions from industrial hubs in Dashoguz and Bereket.
The souvenir category, focusing on miniature and high-precision items up to 1 square meter, saw Mary-based artisan Aynagozel Suvhanova take first place for her masterfully designed dutar musical instrument cover named "Shelpeli golche." Representatives from the Halach and Bereket factories secured the runner-up positions. At the conclusion of the forum, all winning teams and individual artisans were officially presented with Certificates of Honor and premium corporate gifts from state executives.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
