On the occasion of the National Holiday of the Turkmen Steed, the A.S. Pushkin State Russian Drama Theater premiered its latest production, titled "Outrunning the Wind" (Обгоняя ветер). Based on a play by Vladislav Davydov, the performance pays tribute to the legendary Akhal-Teke horses and their central role in Turkmen culture. This theatrical premiere has become a highlight of the city's seasonal cultural program, blending national heritage with contemporary stagecraft.

The narrative centers on a magnificent stallion named Kuwwatly, raised by an elderly horse trainer (seýis). The horse's exceptional beauty and unparalleled speed catch the eye of Sir John, a wealthy Englishman who becomes obsessed with acquiring the animal for his collection. The plot intensifies as the foreigner attempts to secure the purchase, leading to a dramatic exploration of loyalty, national pride, and the deep-seated values that define the relationship between a breeder and his steed.

A key conflict arises through the character of Yelken, a translator who acts as an intermediary for the English visitors while pursuing his own interests. Despite the offer of a substantial fortune, the elderly trainer stands firm, refusing to part with the horse that represents more than just a financial asset. The talented cast, including seasoned actors and honored artists of Turkmenistan, delivered powerful performances that brought the intricate dynamics of the story to life on stage.

Director Bayram Garajayev shared that the production posed unique challenges, particularly in the technical design of a realistic life-sized horse prop to serve as the centerpiece of the drama. Beyond its visual appeal, the play aims to offer meaningful insights into moral integrity and the preservation of national treasures.
