The 25th Italian Language Week in the World began in Turkmenistan's capital on Monday. It takes place annually in dozens of countries and brings together universities, cultural centers, teachers, and students. This year's theme is "Italophonia: Language Without Borders."
The opening ceremonies and events took place at the International University for Humanities and Development and the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. The opening was attended by Carmelo Leo, Commercial Attaché of the Italian Embassy in Turkmenistan; Francesco Giammoni, Professor of Italian and Researcher of Turkic Languages at the University of Cyprus; and Italian language teachers from Turkmen universities.
The first day's program included lectures, creative performances, and meetings. A thematic meeting featuring songs and poems in Turkmen and Italian was held at the University for Humanities and Development. Graduates of the University of Perugia's educational program discussed their experiences studying in Italy and the importance of the Italian language for professional growth.
Lectures and thematic classes are scheduled throughout the week at the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, and the private educational center "Gujurly Bilim Merkezi."
The final event will be the opening ceremony of the CELI Certification Center at the Arkaç shopping and entertainment center. The center is being created with the support of the University of Perugia, the developer of the CELI international Italian language exams.
