Serdar Berdimuhamedov Congratulates the New President of Ireland on Her Inauguration
13 Nov. 09:05President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a congratulatory message to Ms. Catherine Connolly on the occasion of her inauguration as President of the Republic of Ireland. The Turkmen leader wished her good health, happiness, and success in her efforts for the continued progress and prosperity of Ireland.
The inauguration ceremony took place on November 11, 2025, at Dublin Castle. Sixty-eight-year-old Catherine Connolly, a politician, lawyer, and psychologist by education, won a decisive victory in the late October elections with over 63% of the vote, marking the end of Michael D. Higgins’s 14-year tenure as head of state.
Diplomatic engagement between Turkmenistan and Ireland continues to expand. On September 30, 2025, Claire Brosnan, Ambassador of Ireland (based in Moscow), was accredited in Ashgabat, while Turkmenistan’s interests in Dublin have been represented since August 2025 by Ambassador Yazmurat Seryaev (based in London).
The two nations established diplomatic relations in 2007.
As neutral states and members of the Group of Friends of Neutrality under the United Nations, Turkmenistan and Ireland share common goals of strengthening peace, trust, and stability in international relations.
Ireland adopted its neutrality policy during World War II, when then–Prime Minister Éamon de Valera asserted that neutrality allowed the nation to avoid becoming a pawn in the power struggles of major states.

Today in 08:38In celebration of the National Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry Workers' Day, a state-of-the-art Maternal and Child Healthcare Center was officially inaugurated in the city of Balkanabat. The landmark event gathered regional and municipal officials, members of the Halk Maslahaty and Parliament, healthcare professionals, and community leaders. The opening ceremony featured festive cultural performances, musical numbers, and traditional Kushtdepdi dances.
The newly constructed medical complex consists of four- and five-story buildings designed to accommodate up to 305 patients. The center houses comprehensive maternity and postnatal wards, a gynecology division, pediatric units, and diagnostic consultation departments. The facility is equipped with advanced medical technology, including MRI, CT scanners, digital mammography, and fluorography units.
Notably, the center features the region's first 10-bed neonatal intensive care unit, fully outfitted with "Medicor" incubators from Hungary and high-precision German monitoring systems. These technologies allow medical staff to continuously monitor vital stats, body temperature, oxygen saturation, and respiratory functions of newborns.
During the ceremony, outstanding builders from the "Shadiyan Gurlushyk" enterprise were honored with gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, who also donated a new fleet of vehicles to support the medical center's operations.
