Scientists identify biochemistry behind metallic sheen of Akhal-Teke horses
01 Jun. 06:15Biotechnologists from the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have successfully decoded the biochemical mechanisms responsible for the distinct metallic luster of Akhal-Teke horses. According to digital news reports, researchers have developed an objective laboratory methodology to evaluate this legendary phenotype. The comprehensive study marks a significant step forward in understanding the precise structural properties of the breed's coat.
The scientific findings indicate that the signature metallic gloss is produced by a combination of a keratin matrix, a lipid complex, and a specific microelement equilibrium, which together function as a "biological lens." By utilizing advanced atomic absorption spectrometry and protein hydrolysis, the team demonstrated that high concentrations of the amino acids lysine and alanine provide dense fiber alignment and cuticle smoothness. Concurrently, the lipid layer forms a reflective coating, while copper and zinc levels dictate pigmentation intensity and light refraction.
The innovative research project, led by authors Altyn Rahmanova, Durdymyrat Gadamov, and Tore Garlyýew, has already secured copyright protection with a patent application officially registered. For the first time in hippological history, the scientists compiled digital biochemical profiles for the primary coat colors of the Akhal-Teke breed, including black, gray, bay, and dun. This digital standardization will enable major equestrian exhibitions to replace subjective visual evaluations with precise laboratory data, eliminating human bias.
The practical application of this methodology extends beyond selective breeding into modern veterinary science and animal husbandry. These newly established biochemical parameters offer a reliable tool to assess genetic potential, monitor nutritional health, and audit stable management conditions. Consequently, breeders will be able to scientifically optimize feeding diets to enhance the physical appearance and reinforce the exceptional exterior characteristics of the horses.

Entrance Examinations for Higher and Secondary Vocational Institutions Completed in Turkmenistan
24 Aug. 18:38Turkmenistan has officially concluded its admission campaign for higher and secondary vocational educational institutions for the 2026–2027 academic year. Held between July 13 and August 24, 2026, the examination process was conducted under state commission oversight and public supervision. Notably, entrance exams at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the International University of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs were administered using a standardized testing format.
Following the examination results, over 18,000 applicants were admitted to higher education institutions. Under the newly implemented "Strategy for the Development of Higher Professional Education in Turkmenistan for 2026–2052," several new academic tracks were established across specialist, bachelor's, and master's degree levels, aligning with the "Atlas of Future Professions." Priority admission status was granted to international competition winners, top athletes, and high school medalists.
