Press conference held at the Residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Turkmenistan
28 Jan. 09:06On January 28, 2026, a press conference was held at the Residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Turkmenistan with the participation of representatives of Turkmen media outlets. The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey answered journalists’ questions and outlined the key areas of bilateral cooperation.
In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that 2025 was a particularly dynamic and meaningful year for Turkey–Turkmenistan relations. Cooperation expanded across political, economic, energy, transport, educational and cultural fields.
High-level political dialogue
Special attention was given to the events held in Turkmenistan marking the 30th anniversary of its Permanent Neutrality. The Ambassador highlighted the active participation of high-ranking Turkish officials in international forums and conferences.
A milestone in bilateral relations was the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the “Peace and Trust” International Forum held in Ashgabat on December 12, 2025.
Trade, economy and investments
According to the Ambassador, bilateral trade volume reached approximately USD 2 billion in January–November 2025, with both sides aiming to increase it to USD 5 billion in the near future.
Turkish companies have successfully implemented over 1,000 projects in Turkmenistan, with a total value exceeding USD 54 billion, contributing significantly to the country’s infrastructure development.
Energy cooperation
Energy cooperation was highlighted as a key priority. The Ambassador described the commencement of Turkmen natural gas deliveries to Turkey via a swap mechanism through Iran as a historic step enhancing regional energy security.
Culture and education
The Ambassador noted the growing cultural ties and the strong interest in education. Around 40,000 Turkmen students are currently studying in Turkey, reflecting the deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two nations.
Concluding the press conference, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy’s openness to close cooperation with Turkmen media and expressed readiness for continued dialogue.

24 Aug. 14:45The Swiss Government has officially opened the application cycle for its Excellence Scholarships for the 2027–2028 academic year. The program target young specialists and researchers from Turkmenistan seeking to conduct post-graduate research or pursue doctoral studies at top Swiss universities and research institutes.
Key applicant requirements:
A Master’s degree or equivalent academic/professional credential;
Age limit: born after December 31, 1991;
A detailed research proposal including a timeline, core methodology, and planned objectives;
An official letter of academic sponsorship from a host professor in Switzerland;
For applicants currently residing in Switzerland, the entry date must not precede August 1, 2026.
The grant includes a monthly allowance, health insurance coverage, partial housing subsidies, and travel expenses. Research fellowships range from 6 to 12 months in duration. Electronic application submissions will remain open through November 27, 2026. Application procedures for Turkmen citizens are overseen by the Embassy of Switzerland in Baku.
