Central Asian Women Leaders Discuss Gender Equality Promotion in Tashkent

 A delegation from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, led by Bayramgozel Muradova, Chair of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy, took part in the Central Asian Women Leaders’ Dialogue held in Uzbekistan’s capital. The event focused on strengthening regional cooperation, increasing women’s participation in public, political, and economic life, and advancing gender equality across the region.

The meeting brought together representatives of the parliaments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as delegates from international organizations and civil society institutions.

Participants commended the progress made by Central Asian countries in empowering women and enhancing their role in governance and society.

The Turkmen delegation emphasized the importance of cooperation with international partners, continuous improvement of the legal framework, and expanding women’s participation in public administration and key sectors such as entrepreneurship, labor, education, and healthcare.
They highlighted the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan (2021–2025) as an essential policy instrument promoting equal opportunities and leadership development.

The Dialogue featured five specialized sessions addressing major topics: women’s role in decision-making, female entrepreneurship as a driver of economic growth, education and reproductive health policies, women’s participation in innovation and media, and climate policy. Special attention was paid to legal protection for women.

At the conclusion, participants adopted the Tashkent Declaration, reaffirming regional commitment to women’s rights, equality, and sustainable development. Women leaders of Central Asia also issued a joint appeal to the heads of state, proposing the development of a regional roadmap outlining priorities in rights protection, entrepreneurship, education, innovation, and access to quality healthcare.

Turkmenistan and Spain share experience in combating desertification

A Spanish delegation led by Ambassador to Moscow Ricardo Martinez held talks with the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental matters.

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated the Turkmen side on the International Day of Neutrality and thanked them for the warm welcome. The discussions were later reported on the official website of Turkmenistan’s environmental authority.

The agenda included cooperation in environmental protection, joint efforts to combat desertification, and measures to address plastic waste pollution. Special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s presidential initiative announced at the UN General Assembly, proposing the establishment of a regional desertification prevention center for Central Asian countries, along with potential areas of collaboration.
