Presidents of Turkmenistan and Switzerland Hold Talks During UN General Assembly in New York

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting took place as part of President Berdimuhamedov's working visit to the United States.

During the talks, the two leaders reviewed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on current global issues.

Both sides emphasized the foundation of mutual understanding and friendly dialogue that characterizes Turkmen-Swiss relations. They highlighted the importance of neutrality as a shared principle guiding both countries’ foreign policies, creating common ground for collaboration and contributing to regional and global stability.

Key sectors identified for future cooperation included trade, investment, finance, pharmaceuticals, and green energy. Cultural and humanitarian exchanges were also acknowledged as essential for deepening ties between the nations.

President Berdimuhamedov extended an invitation to his Swiss counterpart to attend the upcoming International Forum in Ashgabat on December 12, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the UN-declared International Year of Peace and Trust, initiated by Turkmenistan.

Karin Keller-Sutter expressed appreciation for the invitation and praised Turkmenistan’s active role in fostering international dialogue. The meeting concluded with warm wishes extended to the peoples of both countries.

Over 100 Mobile Shops Operate in Balkan Region for New Year Celebrations

In the Balkan region of Turkmenistan, extensive preparations are underway to celebrate the New Year. With the efforts of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Balkan Regional Consumer Societies Union, and the local branch of the Turkmenistan Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Association, all retail outlets in the region have expanded their festive offerings. Residents and visitors can find a wide variety of food, industrial goods, and gift items.

Markets are adorned with fresh produce, sparkling globes, garlands, toys, candles, Christmas trees, and other gifts that capture the festive spirit. Modern greenhouses in Gyzylarbat, Magtymguly, Bereket districts, as well as in the cities of Balkanabat and Turkmenbashi, supply fresh vegetables and greens for the shelves of mobile trade points. High-quality meat, dairy products, vegetables, and fruits are sold at affordable prices. Beautifully packaged New Year gifts attract considerable interest from buyers.

To meet public demand, the Balkan Regional Consumer Societies Union has opened more than 100 mobile trade points across all districts and cities of the region. These mobile shops will operate until January 3, 2026, according to the «Türkmenistan» newspaper.
