Nowruz Celebrated at the Turkmen-Tajik School in Tajikistan

On March 26, 2026, a festive celebration and exhibition dedicated to the International Day of Nowruz were held at the Magtymguly Pyragy Secondary School No. 8 in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan. This event brought together students, teachers, and officials to celebrate the arrival of spring, a season symbolizing renewal and the deep-rooted cultural bonds between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

The ceremony was jointly organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Tajikistan, the Tajik Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations, and the Turkmen Cultural Society of Tajikistan. Attendees included local government representatives, journalists, and members of the diplomatic corps. The school environment was transformed into a colorful hub of tradition, reflecting the shared heritage that defines the region’s historical and social identity.

Alongside the festivities, a specialized exhibition showcased the richness of Turkmen culture, featuring exquisite hand-woven carpets, national jewelry, traditional embroidery, and photographs of the legendary Akhal-Teke horses. Students contributed to the celebration by performing traditional music, folk dances, and reciting poetry in both Turkmen and Tajik languages, highlighting the linguistic and cultural harmony present at the school.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
