The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, is set to undertake an official visit to Turkmenistan to further strengthen bilateral ties and strategic cooperation. The upcoming mission was highlighted during a high-level meeting between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, and Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marikana, representing the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Political Advisory Committee. This visit is expected to mark a significant milestone in the diplomatic history of the two nations.

A central component of the visit’s agenda focuses on the energy sector, specifically the long-standing partnership with the Malaysian energy giant PETRONAS. It was noted that a Protocol on commercial terms has already been established between the "Turkmennebit" State Concern and PETRONAS. Furthermore, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding regarding production sharing is planned during the Prime Minister's stay, reinforcing the legal and economic framework for continued hydrocarbon exploration and production.

The visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Malaysia. To commemorate this landmark, an international scientific and practical conference will be held, showcasing the evolution of the partnership over the past three decades. Additionally, a specialized exhibition will feature various aspects of Turkmen-Malay cooperation, highlighting successful joint ventures and cultural synergies between the two countries.
