On October 24, the National Leader of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, chaired a working meeting in Ashgabat with the State Organizing Committee. The session focused on organizing events for the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust. Held at the Neutrality Monument with government members present, the meeting coincided with the 80th anniversary of the UN, giving it special symbolic significance.

The discussion centered on a comprehensive plan to develop the capital in line with upcoming international celebrations. Berdimuhamedov reviewed construction and modernization projects, emphasizing the use of innovative technologies and consideration of local natural conditions in city landscaping and tree planting.

Earlier, he issued instructions for the renovation of the Neutrality Monument and its adjacent park, ensuring that designs reflect Turkmenistan’s legally recognized status, confirmed three times by UN resolutions, and incorporate UN flag symbols and colors. Similar requirements were set for the roundabout at the intersection of Bitarap Turkmenistan and Chandybil avenues.

Attention was also given to the Neutrality Museum, where the country’s neutral status and related UN documents should be highlighted.

Berdimuhamedov expressed dissatisfaction with Ashgabat’s mayor, Rahym Gandyrov, citing delays and shortcomings in city improvement efforts. Recommendations were made to accelerate work, maintain cleanliness, and adopt a comprehensive ecological approach for the capital.

Special focus was placed on protocol arrangements for the celebrations, which will include heads of state and government from UN member countries. Berdimuhamedov instructed that the highest level of service be provided and that Turkmen national traditions be observed in welcoming guests.

The meeting concluded with recommendations for organizing international programs and conducting a citywide autumn campaign to plant Turkmen juniper trees, involving Ashgabat residents.
