Turkmen Delegation Participates in the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg
02 Apr. 07:27From April 1 to 3, the "Expoforum" Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg is hosting the International Transport and Logistics Forum. A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the Deputy Minister of Railway Transport, S. Nurberdiyev, is taking part in the event. According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the delegation's participation reflects the country's ongoing commitment to strengthening international transport ties and coordinating global logistical efforts.
The forum participants are discussing a wide array of topics, including the development of international transport corridor infrastructure, freight and passenger logistics, tourism, and digital services. Key sessions are focused on innovative solutions, regulatory and legal frameworks within the transport sector, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies into the global transport industry. The forum serves as a critical platform for addressing the challenges and opportunities of modern Eurasian connectivity.
For many years, Turkmenistan has been a leading advocate for establishing a systemic international dialogue on transport and logistics interconnectivity. Based on the country's initiatives, the UN General Assembly has adopted several resolutions on international transport cooperation. Notably, Turkmenistan hosted the first UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference in 2016, which laid the groundwork for comprehensive international cooperation in the field. The current participation in the St. Petersburg forum continues this strategic trajectory of fostering a more integrated and efficient global transport network.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
