Donald Trump Highlights Central Asia’s Strategic Importance at the C5+1 Summit
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the “Central Asia – United States” (C5+1) Summit held in Washington and met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
The leaders of the five Central Asian nations and the U.S. President gathered for a working dinner following a series of bilateral discussions in the Oval Office.
In his opening remarks, President Trump emphasized the growing strategic relevance of Central Asia:
“We are strengthening economic partnerships, enhancing cooperation on security, and expanding shared connections,” he stated.
Highlighting the region’s historical legacy, Trump said:
“These nations were once the heart of the ancient Silk Road linking East and West. Today, their position in the center of Eurasia gives them unique importance and enormous potential.”
He underscored the significance of critical minerals as a key item on the agenda, reaffirming the United States’ intention to reinforce global supply chains and economic security through partnerships worldwide.
Trump added that his administration is correcting what he called a “mistake” of previous governments that overlooked the region:
“I intend to build America’s partnership with each of these nations stronger than ever before. This is one of the world’s most vital regions — though many have yet to realize it.”
President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the invitation and commended the positive outcomes of the C5+1 format:
“Since its creation, we have seen tangible progress, and we continue to expand cooperation in strategically important fields such as security, economy, energy, and environmental protection.”
He expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes would contribute to further deepening multilateral cooperation between the Central Asian states and the United States.
