Doctors Warn About Popular but Useless Cold Treatments

Source

When treating respiratory infections, many Russians still rely on outdated or ineffective methods. According to physician Anastasia Agaeva, the most common mistake is the use of antibiotics, which do not help against viruses and should only be used for confirmed bacterial infections.

Other ineffective treatments include antiviral drugs without proven efficacy, homeopathy, and immunomodulators. These products often fail to aid recovery and may even trigger side effects such as diarrhea or allergic reactions.

Common but harmful home remedies include excessive intake of vitamin C, rubbing the body with alcohol or vinegar, using mustard plasters or suction cups, and rinsing the nose with antiseptics. These actions are not supported by science and may harm the body.

The most effective strategy is to follow a doctor’s advice. For prevention, hygiene, proper nutrition, and avoiding contact with sick individuals are key.

On 15 December 2025, a ceremonial reception marking the National Day of the State of Qatar was held in Ashgabat. The event was hosted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Qatar to Turkmenistan, Nasser Ahmed Mohammed Al-Taher.

The beyan.tm team was also present at the celebration.

The Guest of Honour from the Government of Turkmenistan was Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agahanov.

In his address, the Ambassador highlighted the historical role of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founder of modern Qatar, and emphasized Qatar’s active role in international mediation and peacebuilding efforts.

Special attention was given to the rapid development of bilateral relations between Qatar and Turkmenistan in 2025, supported by high-level mutual visits and close ties between the leaders of the two countries.

Guests were introduced to Qatari culture through an exhibition of traditional clothing, books about Qatar, national artifacts, and falcons — a symbol of the country’s heritage. The atmosphere was enriched by traditional music, while a calligrapher artistically wrote guests’ names upon request.
