Children’s Library of Turkmenistan Hosts Event Marking the 585th Anniversary of Alisher Navoi

A cultural and educational event dedicated to the 585th anniversary of the birth of the great Eastern poet Alisher Navoi was held at the Bazar Amanov State Children’s Library of Turkmenistan. The meeting brought together young readers from Ashgabat’s School of Fine Arts No. 4.

During the event, participants were introduced to the life and creative legacy of Alisher Navoi, a towering figure in Eastern literature. Speakers highlighted his multifaceted personality, noting that Navoi was not only a poet of exceptional stature but also a prominent statesman, linguist, and artist.

Special emphasis was placed on Navoi’s close connection with Turkmenistan. His time spent in the city of Merv played a significant role in shaping the traditions of Turkmen classical literature. Many of his poetic works later inspired musical compositions performed by Turkmen folk musicians. In Turkmen musical culture, unique melodic modes associated with Navoi are still preserved, particularly in dutar performance traditions.

The discussion also touched upon the epic poem “Farhad and Shirin,” part of Navoi’s renowned “Khamsa” cycle, which holds enduring value for the literary heritage of Turkmenistan and the broader Eastern world.

The event at the Children’s Library of Turkmenistan was later featured on the “Happy Childhood” program broadcast by the Ashgabat television channel.

















Turkmenistan Develops Bio-Agent to Neutralize Methane Emissions

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
