Board of the Muftiyat of Turkmenistan Approves Strategic Leadership Changes
20 Jun. 04:08A comprehensive meeting of the country's religious council was convened at the Turkmenbashi Spirituality Mosque in Kipchak to evaluate current administrative matters. According to the "Watan" news program, the Council of Board Members of the Muftiyat of Turkmenistan approved a series of structural personnel modifications, altering the leadership configuration within the national Islamic governance framework.
Following the formal resolutions issued by the legislative board, Ýalkap Hojagulyýew was officially relieved of his duties as the Mufti of Turkmenistan. To fill the institutional vacancy, Rahman Gurbanmyradow, who previously operated as the head of the Ahal region branch and chief imam of the province, was promoted to the position of Mufti of Turkmenistan, assuming spiritual leadership at the state level.
The administrative restructuring simultaneously extended to regional and municipal Islamic departments across the territory. Wepamuhammet Işangulyýew was transferred from his role as the chief imam of Ashgabat to become the chief imam of the Ahal region. Consequently, Güýçgeldi Agaew, the former chief imam of the prominent Ertugrul Gazy Mosque, was selected to assume operational control over the Ashgabat city directorate as its new chief imam.
Historically, the outgoing official, Ý. Hojagulyýew, had performed the functions of the Mufti of Turkmenistan since August 2019. Prior to his central state appointment, he had accumulated executive experience during his tenure as the chief religious leader of the Lebap province. These synchronized rotations are intended to strengthen the institutional cohesion and oversight of religious affairs across all administrative divisions.
