Azerbaijan to Gift Oil Tanker to Turkmenistan and Launch Direct Air Link

At the Investment Forum in Avaza, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Economy, Sahib Alekperov, announced that his government will present Turkmenistan with an oil tanker with a displacement of 8,000 tons. The gesture, which he mentioned during the plenary session, is meant to symbolize the brotherly ties between the two nations. The project is expected to be completed by late this year or early next year.

Alekperov also emphasized that bilateral cooperation goes far beyond symbolic actions. He referred to the trilateral meeting held in August in Avaza, where a memorandum on developing international air travel was signed between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and a third country. This agreement will establish a direct air corridor over the Caspian Sea, facilitating business, tourism, and personal travel. He expressed confidence that the route will be in high demand.

Expanding on the transportation theme, the deputy minister stressed the importance of the Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan logistics corridor for the entire Eurasian region, especially Caspian states. He drew a historical parallel: "Just as all roads once led to Rome, now we can say that all roads lead through Turkmenistan."

Alekperov believes that the active collaboration between Ashgabat and Baku will transform the investment climate and deepen political and economic ties, thanks to the excellent high-level relations between the two countries.
