Arkadag City’s Achievements to be Showcased at the World Urban Forum in Baku

This announcement was made during a working meeting in Arkadag City, attended by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Co-organized by the Government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), this international platform will serve as a venue to present the unique concept of Turkmenistan’s first "smart" city.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation in such a prestigious global forum underscores the international community's growing interest in Turkmenistan’s experience in creating sustainable urban environments. The presentation will focus on the various international certificates and accolades that Arkadag City has earned since its inauguration. The exhibition will demonstrate how the integration of cutting-edge ecological and technological standards has resulted in a futuristic city designed with human well-being and comfort at its core.
A key theme of the presentation will involve the implementation of digital platforms for urban management. The National Leader emphasized that the use of smart systems allows for high levels of efficiency in the consumption of electricity, natural gas, and water resources. Arkadag City’s model for digitalizing municipal services and public utilities is regarded as a significant contribution to the global strategy for smart city development, attracting professional interest from international urban planners and experts.

The political transition was necessitated by the early resignation of former head of state Mohammed Shahabuddin. The previous leader stepped down due to health reasons, which required the parliament to organize elections to fill the vacant presidential post.
The parliamentary vote to elect the head of state took place on August 20, 2026. Following the count, candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured a decisive victory with 255 votes from lawmakers, while his competitor Oli Ahmed received 88 votes.
