Apple to Earn a 15% Cut from WeChat Mini-Game Transactions

Source

Apple and Tencent have reached a deal allowing Apple to handle payment processing for in-app purchases within WeChat’s mini-games and mini-apps, securing a 15% commission, according to Bloomberg.

Developers will now be required to follow Apple’s compliance standards, including stricter oversight of content accessible to minors. The commission is notably lower than the typical 30% fee in the App Store, creating a new revenue stream for Apple while relieving Tencent of payment-processing responsibilities.

Tencent President Martin Lau described the company’s relationship with Apple as “very strong.” WeChat serves over one billion users in China, and Tencent’s revenue from social features and mini-games reached $4.5 billion in the third quarter.
