President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed legislative amendments affecting Turkmenistan’s Labor Code as well as the country’s laws governing hunting and the protection of wildlife. According to the newspaper “Turkmenistan,” the newly adopted laws come into effect on the day of their official publication.
One of the changes concerns Article 44 of the 2021 Law “On Hunting and Protection of Hunting Resources,” which has been revised.
The amendments to the Labor Code clarify regulations on working hours under a shift-based schedule. The standard duration of work is determined according to the production calendar. Under a six-day workweek, the length of the daily work shift is set equivalent to a seven-hour workday within the 40-hour weekly norm.
The updated provisions also require employers to pay compensation to the family of an employee who dies as a result of a workplace accident or occupational illness. The one-time payment must equal ten times the amount of the worker’s actual annual earnings.

23 Aug. 14:31The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance cooperation in education and vocational training. The signing meeting involved Minister of Education J. Gurbangeldiyev, Malaysian Ambassador Mohd Suhaimi bin Ahmad Tajuddin, and PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) CEO Ismadi bin Ismail.
The agreement coincides with the 30th anniversary of PETRONAS's operations in Turkmenistan's oil and gas sector. Discussions focused on qualifying skilled workforce candidates for the energy industry, extending scholarship opportunities for Turkmen students at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and advancing professional development programs.
To date, Turkmenistan and Malaysia have established nearly 20 educational agreements. During the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, three additional agreements were finalized between local universities and Universiti Tenaga Nasional to support academic mobility and exchange initiatives.
