Visa has integrated its payment network with ChatGPT, allowing the AI chatbot to independently select products and execute commercial transactions on behalf of users.

Through this partnership, OpenAI provides the interaction and decision-making technology, while Visa manages payment authorization and transaction security. This integration enables AI agents to make purchases from merchants that accept Visa cards. To utilize the service, users must link their Visa cards to their ChatGPT accounts. Built-in security measures include spending limits, mandatory transaction confirmations, and a registry of verified merchants.

Jack Forestell, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Visa, stated that during the initial phase, most transactions will require user confirmation, as consumers will need time to trust AI with autonomous spending. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
