President of Turkmenistan Inaugurates the Mary – Turkmenabat Section of the High-Speed Motorway
10 Apr. 17:50President Serdar Berdimuhamedov officially opened the Mary – Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat – Turkmenabat high-speed highway today. During the ceremony, the President noted that this vital infrastructure represents a modern interpretation of the historic Silk Road, significantly enhancing the nation's connectivity. The newly completed segment is a critical part of the 600-kilometer expressway designed to streamline domestic and international transit.
The 288-kilometer section was developed by the private company "Türkmenawtoban," showcasing the growing capabilities of the domestic construction sector. The project involved the assembly of three major bridges and the implementation of advanced engineering solutions for the road's foundation. With a total width of 34.5 meters and a dedicated traffic lane width of 22.5 meters, the highway is built to handle heavy commercial vehicles and high-speed passenger traffic efficiently.
A comprehensive array of service facilities has been established along the route to ensure a high level of passenger comfort and operational safety. This includes five refueling stations, several maintenance hubs, and modern payment terminals located at strategic intervals. For enhanced security, the highway is equipped with 234 surveillance cameras and 144 emergency communication points, while protective barriers and wildlife underpasses have been integrated to prevent environmental and road hazards.
The launch of this high-speed link is a strategic milestone for Turkmenistan’s transport and logistics sector. By providing a faster and more reliable route for freight and travelers, the highway strengthens the country's position as a major transit corridor in Central Asia. This development is expected to boost regional trade, improve living standards, and provide a significant impetus to the national economy through modernized infrastructure.

Detroit High School Students Eligible for Up to $1,000 for Perfect Attendance
23 Aug. 18:09High school students in Detroit, Michigan, who maintain consistent school attendance can earn up to $1,000 in electronic gift cards. According to Fox News, high schoolers receive a $100 digital gift card for every week of uninterrupted class attendance. Students can earn $400 across four weeks, with total incentives reaching up to $1,000 during the 10-week winter period.
The attendance incentive model demonstrated strong results between January and March 2026, when approximately 12,800 high school students—representing 84% of the district's high school population—qualified for the payments. Concurrently, chronic absenteeism dropped from 64% to 54%. Following this success, the program has been extended through the 2026–2027 academic year and expanded to include students in grades 6–8, who will receive $50 for each week of full attendance.
The school district allocated $13.9 million from its overall budget to combat unexcused absences. The program maintains strict criteria: a single unexcused absence during any given school week forfeits the student's eligibility for that week's reward.
