In the first two months of 2026, more than 50,000 travelers from Turkmenistan visited Uzbekistan. According to the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 51,200 citizens of Turkmenistan traveled to the neighboring country during this period. This surge in visitor numbers highlights the growing cultural and economic ties between the two nations and the increasing appeal of Uzbekistan as a regional tourism hub.
Turkmenistan currently ranks sixth in the number of citizens visiting Uzbekistan. The list is topped by the Kyrgyz Republic with 521,300 visitors, followed by Tajikistan with 469,000 and Kazakhstan with 386,200. Russia and Afghanistan also feature in the top five, reflecting the diverse origins of tourists flocking to Uzbekistan. These statistics underscore the central role of neighboring states in driving Uzbekistan's rapidly growing hospitality sector.
The total number of foreign visitors to Uzbekistan in January and February reached 1,776,000, representing a significant 33% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is a testament to the country's effective tourism promotion strategies and improved infrastructure. Turkmen travelers are increasingly drawn to Uzbekistan’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and the shared historical legacy of the Great Silk Road, fostering deeper mutual understanding.
The rise in cross-border travel is also attributed to the simplification of travel procedures and the strengthening of bilateral relations. Beyond sightseeing, many visits are motivated by business interests and family ties, which are essential components of regional integration. As both countries continue to collaborate on regional tourism initiatives, the number of Turkmen travelers exploring Uzbekistan's vibrant culture and history is expected to grow further throughout the year.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
