During the strategic regional panels of the World Urban Forum, senior leadership from the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) announced plans to extend the organization's institutional operational framework within Central Asia. According to structural statements delivered by the regional directorate, negotiations are underway to establish a dedicated UN-Habitat project office in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The agency's regional division currently oversees urban development mandates across 25 nations spanning Eastern and Southern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. As part of its structured decentralization and country-level engagement program, UN-Habitat is setting up operational nodes in key regional capitals to better facilitate sustainable development initiatives and manage localized urban agendas.

The establishment of a permanent project bureau in Ashgabat is expected to substantially enhance technical cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations in fields related to smart urbanization and resilient infrastructure. The physical presence of the agency will provide direct access to global urban planning frameworks, strengthening the implementation of national eco-friendly municipal strategies and sustainable structural designs.
