Turkmenistan plans to take part in the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF 13), which will be held in Baku in May 2026. This announcement was made by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan during an interview with the "Report" news agency. The forum is expected to be a milestone in advancing the global agenda for sustainable urban development and strengthening international cooperation in the field of modern urbanization.

Turkmenistan intends to be represented at the forum at a high level, showcasing its achievements in urban planning and social welfare. The country places significant emphasis on housing construction and improving the living conditions of its citizens as part of its long-term development strategy. The core of Turkmenistan's urban policy is the creation of a comfortable, modern, and safe urban environment, exemplified by the capital city of Ashgabat and the newly established "smart" city of Arkadag.

The interview also highlighted that despite being major energy states with vast oil and gas reserves, both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are increasingly interested in developing green energy. Promising areas for cooperation include joint projects in solar and wind power, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental sustainability. This shift towards renewable energy sources marks a significant evolution in the strategic partnership between the two Caspian nations.

A key future initiative discussed involves the creation of infrastructure for exporting green electricity to Europe, possibly through subsea cable lines under the Caspian Sea. This integration of energy systems would facilitate regional cooperation and provide a direct link to international markets. Furthermore, the Ambassador noted that Days of Culture of Azerbaijan are planned to be held in Turkmenistan this year, further fostering the deep-rooted cultural ties between the two neighboring peoples.
