During a recent digital Cabinet meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved proposals to broaden Turkmenistan's diplomatic footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. As reported by the Foreign Minister, the nation will appoint ambassadors to the Republic of Maldives and the State of Brunei Darussalam. This move is part of Turkmenistan's strategic foreign policy aimed at fostering deeper engagement with key Asian nations and leveraging decades of cooperation experience in the region.

The new diplomatic appointments will be conducted on a concurrent basis. Under the proposed plan, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to India will simultaneously serve as the Ambassador to the Maldives, while the Ambassador to Malaysia will be concurrently accredited to Brunei Darussalam. This organizational structure is designed to maximize diplomatic outreach while ensuring efficient coordination of bilateral initiatives within these diverse maritime nations.

The Asia-Pacific region remains a focal point of global economic and political activity. By establishing formal diplomatic channels with Brunei and the Maldives, Turkmenistan aims to explore new opportunities in trade, sustainable tourism, and investment. These nations represent promising partners in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and regional economic integration.

President Berdimuhamedov instructed the Foreign Ministry to finalize the legal and administrative procedures for these appointments. The head of state emphasized that strengthening ties with Asia-Pacific countries is a priority, reflecting Turkmenistan’s commitment to a multi-vector foreign policy based on mutual respect and constructive international dialogue.
