The development of strategic cooperation with the United Nations continues to be a cornerstone of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. On March 27, 2026, during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting, Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister R. Meredov reported on the preparations for the upcoming fifth meeting of the "Turkmenistan — United Nations" Strategic Advisory Council. Established by a Presidential Decree in March 2024, the council has conducted four successful meetings to date, serving as a high-level mechanism for harmonizing national goals with global UN standards.

The fifth session of the council, scheduled for March 31, 2026, will address critical issues within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A key priority of the meeting will be the preparation of Turkmenistan's third Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDGs. This review is essential for tracking national progress and showcasing the country's socio-economic achievements and environmental commitments to the international community.

The agenda also includes innovative proposals for cooperation in environmental protection and youth policy. Discussions will focus on draft programs for methane emission reduction, developed in partnership with specialized UN agencies. Additionally, participants will review the draft of a new program titled "Youth — Peace and Security" for 2026–2028, aimed at engaging the younger generation in peacebuilding efforts and regional security initiatives.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, upon hearing the report, approved the proposals and emphasized the strategic importance of the UN-Turkmenistan partnership for regional and global stability. The President instructed the Foreign Minister to ensure that the meeting is organized at the highest level, reflecting the nation's proactive role in international diplomacy. This upcoming session is expected to further solidify the collaborative efforts between Turkmenistan and the UN in building a sustainable future.
