Turkmenistan receives its first batch of advanced 3-section cargo locomotives from China

Turkmenistan’s railway fleet has been expanded with the arrival of modern three-section cargo locomotives manufactured by a prominent enterprise in the People's Republic of China. As highlighted by the "Watan" news program, this marks the first time that locomotives of this specific three-section configuration have been imported into the country.

The high-tech railway equipment was welcomed at the Ashgabat central railway station by transport sector executives, engineering specialists, and community elders in a formal ceremony adhering to traditional customs. The strategic acquisition of these freight locomotives serves as another milestone in the mutually beneficial partnership between the two friendly nations. The integration of these vehicles is set to significantly optimize the operational capacity of the domestic rail freight sector.

Under ongoing bilateral agreements, the Chinese manufacturing partner has also executed capital overhauls on Turkmenistan's existing fleet. Technical analysts provided a comparative overview of the operational capacities:

Upgraded 2-section locomotives: possess a maximum hauling capacity of 4,200 tons.

Newly acquired 3-section locomotives: feature a substantial hauling capacity of up to 6,300 tons.

The structural engineering of the new units is specifically tailored to regional rail parameters, with each section equipped with 6 wheelsets producing an axle load of 23 tons. The locomotives possess a maximum structural speed of 100 km/h and are outfitted with an advanced specialized control system, ensuring high operational safety and efficiency across long-distance freight routes.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
